GrabNet is a tool designed to easily collect and organize information while browsing the Internet. GrabNet stores information intuitively in folders and sub-folders on the local desktop. Users can casually grab snips of information, including images, text and URL's, for later use and organization within a customized collection of folders. While GrabNet works with any World Wide Web Browser, Version 1.0 is optimized to work with Netscape Navigator version 1.1. The Macintosh version is currently available for free 10 day evaluation.
Tool Bar
• Up arrow - returns to parent folder. If you are several folders deep, hold down this icon for a half-second and a pop-up menu will appear allowing you to go up to any level above the current folder.
• Folder - creates a new folder.
• Dots-with-lines - changes the current folder view to List.
• Large dots - changes the current folder view to Tile.
• Magnifying glass - shows and hides the Viewer.
• Web-to-folder - adds the current browser page URL to your folder, automatically attaching the page title to the URL object. (Currently, this functionality is only supported by the Netscape 1.1b3 browser.) Navigate back to this page by double-clicking the URL object.
• Clipboard-to-folder - pastes the contents of the clipboard into your folder, automatically attaching the URL and title of the current browser page to the Image, Text or URL object. (Currently, this functionality is only supported by the Netscape 1.1b3 browser.) Navigate back to this page by double-clicking the object.
• Camera - allows you to capture a portion of the screen as an image, automatically attaching the URL and title of the current browser page to the Image object. (Currently, this functionality is only supported by the Netscape 1.1b3 browser.)
Floating Palette
• Web-to-folder - adds the current browser page URL to your folder, automatically attaching the page title to the URL object. (Currently, this functionality is only supported by the Netscape 1.1b3 browser.) Navigate back to this page by double-clicking the URL object.
• Clipboard-to-folder - pastes the contents of the clipboard into your folder, automatically attaching the URL and title of the current browser page to the Image, Text or URL object. (Currently, this functionality is only supported by the Netscape 1.1b3 browser.) Navigate back to this page by double-clicking the object.
• Camera - allows you to capture a portion of the screen as an image, automatically attaching the URL and title of the current browser page to the Image object. (Currently, this functionality is only supported by the Netscape 1.1b3 browser.)
• Shade - hides or shows all GrabNet windows (useful for screen capture).
GrabNet window
The GrabNet window shows a List View or Tile View (thumbnails) of the items in the current folder. Double-click a folder to see its contents (shift double-click displays this information in a new window). Use up arrow icon to return to parent folder. The magnifying glass icon shows or hides the Viewer on the right side of the GrabNet window. Click on any list item or tile to view its properties and contents (image or text) in the Viewer.
Navigate back to favorite Web locations with your browser by double-clicking on any object in GrabNet with a URL in the Origin field. Invoke the helper application for any object -- SimpleText for images and text, web browser for URLs -- by selecting the object and choosing File Open.
Grabbing a URL
The best way to capture the URL of the current Netscape page -- click on the Web-to-folder tool on the tool bar or floating palette. The best way to capture the URL of a page link embedded on a Netscape page -- select Copy this Link Location from the Netscape pop-up menu, then click on the Clipboard-to-folder tool on the tool bar or floating palette. In both cases, the page name will be placed in the label of the URL object.
From other browsers, navigate to the page, highlight the displayed URL and Copy it to the clipboard. Then click on the Clipboard-to-folder tool on palette. The last portion of the URL will be placed in the label of the URL object.
Grabbing an Image
The best way to capture an entire image from a Netscape Web page -- select Copy this Image from the Netscape pop-up menu, then click on the Clipboard-to-folder tool on the tool bar or floating palette. You may also create an image by sweeping any portion of the screen using the camera tool on the floating palette (click the Shade tool first to hide all GrabNet windows). The page name and URL will be attached to the image for both methods if you are using Netscape1.1b3.
Grabbing text
Highlight text on any web page and Copy it to the clipboard. Then click on the Clipboard-to-folder tool on the tool bar or floating palette. The page name and URL will be attached to the text if you are using Netscape 1.1b3.
